Man wanted nationwide apprehended by Gardaí in operation targeting prolific offenders

The arrests were able to be carried out through targeted, intelligence-led policing

Gardaí in Portlaoise have made a number of arrests in connection with a series of retail theft incidents. 

The arrests were carried out through targeted, intelligence-led policing in the area.

One of those arrested was a prolific theft offender who was wanted nationwide and has now been charged.

Another individual who was sought after in relation to multiple retail theft offences across the eastern region was arrested following their arrival into the state. 

A spokesperson for the Gardaí in Laois and Offaly has commented: "These arrests reflect the ongoing focus on addressing repeat retail theft, supporting local retailers, and disrupting persistent offending in Portarlington and surrounding areas."

They added: "Retail theft has real impacts on workers, businesses, and communities. Gardaí will continue to take decisive action."
