PICTURES: Water drinking feature donated by Tullamore Lions Club unveiled in town centre

The donation is part of an initiative to give back to the community by Tullamore Lions Club as they celebrate their 50th anniversary

Tullamore Lions Club marked their 50th anniversary by donating a public water drinking feature to Offaly County Council.

The drinking feature installed in O’Connor Square is designed to provide free, accessible drinking water to residents and visitors while encouraging the use of reusable water bottles.

Tullamore Lions Club decided on this initiative as part of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of their club and as a thank you to the local community for their generous support during the past 50 years.

The Project reflects the Lions’ long-standing mission of serving the community and supporting practical initiatives that improve everyday life.

There was a great turnout for the event which included representatives from Offaly County Council and Tullamore Lions Club, Council members as well as members of the community.

The new Chief Executive of Offaly County Council, Eoghan Ryan was in attendance as well as Offaly TD's John Clendennen and Tony McCormack.

President of Tullamore Lions Club, Dymphna Bracken believes that the donation of the public water drinking feature marks another step in the organisation's ongoing commitment to community wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

"We are delighted to partner with Offaly County Council on this water drinking feature, which will benefit people of all ages. Such facilities are now a now enjoyed in many Irish towns and European capital cities.

She continued: "Access to clean drinking water in public spaces is a simple but meaningful way to support health, sustainability and community use of our shared spaces. The installation of this water drinking feature will provide a convenient and environmentally friendly resources to be enjoyed by families, students, walkers and visitors to our area."

Dymphna Bracken concluded: "This water drinking feature is not just a step towards a healthier, more sustainable county town, it reflects our commitment to serving our community’s needs, reducing our environmental impact and improving quality of life for all our residents.

I wish to Thank You all for your support and for considering this initiative. I believe that together, we can make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of those we serve."
