The Offaly darts team which reached the All-Ireland Final.
ALL roads led to the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney recently as Offaly’s finest travelled south for the All-Ireland County Darts Championships — and what a weekend it proved to be.
Drawn in a formidable “group of death” alongside Carlow, Meath, Kilkenny and Laois, Offaly knew there would be no easy path to glory. From the very first throw, however, the men in green showed they meant business. Focused, composed and clinical when it mattered most, they delivered a series of superb performances in the group stages.
They opened their campaign with a thrilling 7–6 victory over reigning Leinster Champions Carlow, setting the tone for what was to come. Another nerve-shredding 7–6 triumph over Meath followed, before Offaly really found their rhythm with an emphatic 9–4 win against Kilkenny. They rounded off a perfect day with a commanding 10–3 victory over Laois, securing top spot in the group in style and booking their place in Sunday’s last-16 clash with Sligo.
Sunday morning saw no let-up in intensity as Offaly powered past Sligo 7–3 to reach the quarter-finals. Galway awaited next, and in a high-quality encounter played at a relentless pace, Offaly once again showed their class to emerge 7–4 winners.
The semi-final brought a heavyweight battle with Waterford. With every leg fiercely contested, the tension around the oche was palpable. Digging deep when it mattered most, Offaly produced another huge performance, with Keith McNamara holding his nerve to nail the winning double and seal a 7–3 victory — sparking celebrations as Offaly booked their place in the All-Ireland final, the stage they had targeted and worked tirelessly towards all season.

Standing between Offaly and glory were Donegal, a county renowned for their pedigree on the big stage. In a fiercely competitive final, Offaly battled bravely and never once let their heads drop. Despite a determined and spirited display, they ultimately fell 7–4 to a seasoned Donegal side.
While falling at the final hurdle will sting, it cannot overshadow the outstanding achievement of reaching an All-Ireland final. This team represented Offaly with immense pride, sportsmanship and class — both on and off the oche — and their journey to the decider is a testament to the hard work and dedication shown throughout the year.
A special word of appreciation must go to team manager Mark Guinan, whose commitment, leadership and tireless work behind the scenes played a pivotal role in guiding this group to the brink of national glory.
Offaly may have fallen just short, but their performances in Killarney have ensured that county darts continues to move forward with confidence, belief and pride.
