Fianna Fáil TD for North Tipperary and Northwest Kilkenny, Ryan O’Meara TD has today welcomed confirmation that approval has been granted for the An Post pension increase.
During his contribution in Dáil Éireann, Tipperary Deputy O’Meara said:
“An Post wrote to the Department of Communications in October 2025 requesting consent for a 6% pension increase with effect from 1 January 2025 and a further 1% from 1 June 2025. A separate request was also submitted last year in respect of Eir pensioners for an increase of 2.5% from 1 January 2025.
“These pensioners do not benefit from increases in the State Pension and instead rely on the agreed adjustment mechanisms within their own schemes. These are private schemes that are well regulated and in strong financial health, and the increases sought are both reasonable and affordable.
“Our retired An Post and Eir workers have worked incredibly hard connecting generations of people across this country. They deserve these increases, they are affordable, they need them and they need them now!

Following Deputy O’Meara’s statement, Minister for Public Expenditure, Jack Chambers TD confirmed that he has signed off on the An Post increase.
In response to this confirmation, Deputy O’Meara has stated:
“This is very welcome progress, and I am delighted to see An Post pensioners receiving an increase in their pension. I will continue to engage with the Minister to ensure that we see a similar outcome for Eir pensioners.
