Offaly Roads Policing Unit detected a motorist travelling at excessive speed in hazardous driving conditions during National Slowdown Day.
During Operation Slowdown on Wednesday (Feb 18), members of the Offaly Roads Policing Unit detected a vehicle travelling at 144km/h on a motorway in wet and hazardous conditions.
On inspection, the driver was found to be disqualified from driving and had accumulated 19 penalty points.

"Speeding in poor weather significantly increases stopping distances and reduces vehicle control," Offaly Gardaí said.
"When you add disqualification into the mix, it becomes a serious road safety issue for every other road user.
"Road safety is a shared responsibility.
"Slow down, drive to the conditions, and ensure you are legally entitled to be on the road," the Gardaí said.
