A Tipperary man has taken up an important role caring for rare plants and trees in a botanical garden in Scotland.

Originally from Littleton in Tipperary Kevin Bannon (32) has stepped into a senior role at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh after playing a vital part during the restoration of its iconic Palm Houses.

Kevin began his horticultural journey in his father’s Littleton landscaping business, pairing plant care with a passion for art – from creating floral displays to enhance the village to painting murals with local schoolchildren.

Following his heart to Scotland in 2019, he became central to the Palm House project, combining traditional skills and innovative techniques to protect and replant important botanical specimens.

Now promoted to Senior Glasshouse Horticulturist, Kevin will lead on the care of 600 remarkable plants as the historic houses reopen to the public.
