HOUSEHOLDS and businesses in Roscrea will now benefit from Uisce Éireann’s €2-million upgrade to the Glenbeha Water Treatment Plant - ensuring continued delivery of a clean, secure, and reliable supply of drinking water for the area.
More than 6,400 Uisce Éireann customers in Roscrea are welcoming news that the Roscrea Public Water Supply has been removed from the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) list of vulnerable water supplies following the upgrade.
Over €2 million has been invested in the upgrade of Glenbeha and Fanure Water Treatment Plants and Uisce Éireann said it reaffirms their commitment to deliver a continued supply of safe and reliable water to local homes and businesses.
“We’re proud of the team effort that led to the successful completion of upgrade works at the Water Treatment Plants in Glenbeha and Fanure. We had the community in mind at every step of the project delivery and kept the water flowing throughout," Julie Curtin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said.
“With this project now complete, we can ensure the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to the people of Roscrea, enabling the local community to thrive.

“It’s great news that the completed project has supported the removal of the Roscrea supply from the EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL). We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience while the work was underway.”
The project at Glenbeha Water Treatment Plant on the Shinrone Road involved a major upgrade of the disinfection treatment processes on site and included electrical upgrades, and remote monitoring systems.
The upgrade was delivered with a strong focus on sustainability, incorporating energy efficient solutions to minimise resource consumption. In addition, a full disinfection upgrade was recently completed at Fanure Water Treatment Plant to eliminate the risk of cryptosporidium.
“We are fully committed to identifying and addressing risks to drinking water quality. Our key focus remains the protection of public health through the provision of safe, clean, and secure water supplies for local communities," Pat Duggan, Regional Drinking Water Compliance Manager at Uisce Éireann, said.
"This critical upgrade ensures ongoing compliance with drinking water regulations and significantly reduces the risk of future water quality issues,” Mr Duggan said.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. carried out the works in Roscrea on behalf of Uisce Éireann, which was the latest in a series of several major investments in Tipperary by Uisce Éireann in the past decade.
Other projects in Tipperary include the completion of an upgrade at the Cahir wastewater treatment plant and ongoing wastewater upgrades at Newport and Fethard, totalling €20-million investment. Over €7-million was invested in an upgrade to the Fethard Regional Water Supply Scheme and a new water network at Horse and Jockey, as well as an upgrade to Clonmel's water supply.
