A man who stole items from a supermarket in Tullamore was sentenced to 80 hours community service when he appeared before Judge Andrew Cody at Tullamore District Court last week.

Before the court was James O'Reilly (26) with an address at Main Road, Clonkeen, Portlaoise.

Sgt Richie Thornton, court presenter, told the court that on July 27 at 9.15pm the defendant was captured on CCTV at Tesco in Tullamore stealing a packet of batteries, two LED torches, a packet or Krispy Kreme Donuts and a packet of boys underwear.

The total value of the items was €29.25. The defendant has seven previous convictions and made a full admission.

Solicitor for the defendant, Patrick Martin, said his client is a married man with two children and is very apologetic for what is his first theft offence.
