A MAN was given a prison sentence for being in possession of drugs for his own use during the January 14 sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Ian Quigley, Brickanagh, Cloughjordan, county Offaly, committed the offences on October 25, 2020 and November 2, 2020. He pleaded guilty to both charges.
Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court that on October 25, €25 worth of drugs was found in Brickanagh and on November 2 a gramme of another drug worth €80 was discovered in the same location.
Sergeant Kearns pointed out that Mr Quigley had 43 previous convictions, including a conviction for the possession of drugs for the purpose of sale or supply and a number of convictions for the possession of drugs for his own use.
The defending solicitor Patrick Martin said his client is 31 years of age and had pleaded at the earliest opportunity. He said it was important to bear in mind that the last of the 43 previous convictions dated back several years ago.
The defendant is currently on remand in Limerick Prison.
Judge Andrew Cody convicted and sentenced the defendant to 14 days imprisonment.
