John Clendennen

FINE Gael TD for Offaly, John Clendennen has welcomed the announcement of €44,000 in funding for the Offaly Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA), as part of a national allocation to animal welfare charities announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD.

The funding has been awarded under the Animal Welfare Grants Programme, which is supporting 94 animal welfare charities across the country. The total allocation of €6,434,803 represents the highest level of funding ever provided under the scheme.

This €44,000 funding allocation for Offaly SPCA is very welcome and recognises the invaluable work being carried out every day by the staff and volunteers who care for vulnerable and neglected animals across our county,” said Clendennen.

Offaly SPCA plays a vital role in animal rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming, and this funding will help ensure that they can continue to provide these essential services to our community.”

Deputy Clendennen also acknowledged the wider national investment in animal welfare and thanked Minister Heydon for his continued commitment to the sector. “I commend Minister Martin Heydon for delivering the highest-ever level of funding under this programme. It is a clear acknowledgement of the challenges facing animal welfare charities and the importance of supporting them in their work.”

The Animal Welfare Grants Programme supports organisations with a proven track record in rehoming animals, promoting responsible pet ownership, and educating the public to prevent animal welfare issues.
