A community playground in an Offaly village has announced its newly-built Astro pitch cannot be used due to ongoing insurance issues with Offaly County Council.
In a post on social media on December 16, Geashill Community Playground expressed concerns about the problem.
The post read: "It is with regret that the newly built Astro pitch at Geashill Playground must be locked, effective immediately, due to insurance issues."
It continued: "Offaly County Council currently insure the playground only. Until this is resolved with Offaly County Council, the Astro is not covered under insurance and therefore cannot be used."
The post concludes by asking for public support to resolve the issue with the council. They stated: "Please contact your local representative or Offaly County Council to help progress this issue and show your support. In the meantime, Geashill Playground Committee is working towards a resolution to get this fantastic amenity re-opened for our boys and girls."

Several members of the public tagged a number of TD's under the post to draw attention to the matter.
Fine Gael TD John Clendennen replied: "I’ve made enquiries to see what can be done and will let you know the response as soon as I receive it."
Sinn Féin Councillor Aoife Masterson also posted: "I will get straight on to my colleague in the Edenderry LEA and try and get some answers. What an awful situation - especially over the holidays."
Masterson also replied to another concerned Facebook user saying: "Heartbreaking to see after all the work that went into this. Will hopefully have answers soon."
Independent TD Carol Nolan also addressed the situation as she assured one user: "I will follow up on this issue."
