GONE TO THE DOGS: Six Offaly winners as Kinnitty trainer wins valuable stake in Shelbourne

GONE TO THE DOGS

Once again the weather played havoc with racing. Between the rain and the frost a number of meetings were cancelled. However, there was some very interesting sweepstake action up and down the country including quarterfinal action in valuable stakes in Limerick, Cork and Shelbourne.
Friday Racing
The Matinee SIS meeting in Mullingar was first to be cancelled due to a very wet track.
First Offaly win of the week was in Galway, in an A7 race Breaghmore Joeys won by a neck for Kinnitty owner M.J. Corrigan in 29.82 (10 slow) at 1/1 fav.
One final of note in Kilkenny. In the Track Supporters Club A3 stake the €1.4K first prize was won by Oriental Diamond (Coolavanny Hoffa-Newinn Willow) for Denise Ryan in 29.38 (40 slow) by eight lengths at 5/2.
Two Faithful County winners in Newbridge. In an ON2 Unraced contest Da Cannibal was an impressive seven length winner for Edenderry owner Paul Cronin on debut in 29.88 (40 slow) at 2/1. In an S1 Sprint So Its Ranger won by another wide margin of five lengths in 17.92 (20 slow) at 7/4 for Birr owner Paul Pardy.

One very impressive Offaly winner in Shelbourne. In the final of the Book Your Trial Online A2 Stake Aussie Promise (Ballyhimikin Jet-Geneva Holly) won the €2k purse for Kinnitty owner Jeannette MacKenzie in a superb 28.70 (20 slow) by eight lengths at a generous price of 8/1. Super Offaly winner.
Saturday Racing
The weather once again put paid to Mullingar and Lifford.
Curraheen Park, quarterfinals of the Time Greyhound Nutrition A1 Cork Cup. Microchip set the bar highest for Mary Clarke when stopping the clock in 28.41 by five lengths at 5/2.
Limerick, quarterfinals of the J.P. And Pauline Ryan Memorial A1 Oaks. Equal fastest times here as both Badly Behaving for Shaun Conway and Youandme Babe for Paul Hennessy won in 28.50. Should be interesting semifinals on Saturday. One Offaly winner on the supporting card in the Treaty City. In an A4 race Kitmans Kate made it two wins from three starts for Banagher owner Kieran White, in 29.05 by four lengths, at 5/2 with John Byrne training.
Four different trainers won the heats in the quarterfinals of the Tote Gold Cup AAO 525 in Shelbourne. Ballymac Siun set the standard for Liam Dowling in 28.30. Clona Comet was closest on the timer when winning in 28.31 for Graham Kelly. Callaway Five won heat three for Owen McKenna in 28.49 with the slowest of the four heats being Clona Comet still in an impressive 28.55 for Graham Holland.
Sunday Racing
There was one Offaly winner at the matinee SIS meeting in Mullingar. In an A5 grade Killeshill Belle won for the third week in a row for Croghan owner Vincent Lynch in 30.17 (1.00) slow by seven lengths at 15/8 joint fav.

From March 18th this meeting will no longer be held on a Sunday as it's being moved to a Wednesday afternoon.
Upcoming Events
Saturday, quarterfinals of the Kilbride Kennels Midlands Derby. Semifinals of the Limerick A1 Oaks, A1 Cork Cup and the Tote Gold Cup in Shelbourne.
Tribune Offaly Dog Of The Week
Easy decision this week as Aussie Promise won the final of the Book Your Trial Online A2 Stake in Shelbourne on Friday in superb style in a trap to line procession, by eight lengths, for Jeanette Mackenzie in 28.70 (20 slow). Fine run on the night on a very wet and slow track. Great win for the Kinnitty owner.
One For The Notebook
Da Cannibal looks an interesting sort from the Paul Cronin kennels. His 29.88 (40 slow) win on debut in Newbridge by seven lengths last Friday certainly caught the eye with some very talented pups a long way back. Expect this youngster to be going up through the grades rapidly as the tracks dry out. One for the future for the Edenderry trainer.
Offaly Winners
There were six Offaly winners last week. Congrats to all connections.
