Community on Offaly Tipperary border plunged into mourning after sudden death of young man

Unexpected death of young farmer from Roscrea/ Ballyskenach/ Shinrone area in his early forties

A RURAL community on the south Offaly/ north Tipperary border has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of a young farmer.

Ger Maher, aged in his early forties, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home, Annegrove House, Roscrea.

Ger was the dearly beloved husband and best friend of Claire and cherished Daddy of Aoife, Roísín and Gearoíd.

Ger will always be remembered and loved by his heart-broken wife and adored children, parents Tim and Kathleen, brothers Eoin and Tadhg.

His passing is deeply regretted by his sisters-in-law Avril and Katrina Maher, mother-in-law Patricia O' Callaghan, sisters-in-law Fiona Treacy, Emma O' Callaghan, Fiona's husband Matt Treacy, nephews and nieces: Sophie, Daniel, Lauren, Rebecca, Fionn, Ailbhe, Darragh, Sarah, Seán, Eimear, Cathal, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours and his wide circle of treasured farming friends.

He was pre-deceased by his father-in-law Micheál O'Callaghan.

Ger's family is very well known in farming circles: his father Tim is chairman of Farm Relief Services (FRS) and his uncle Tom, who resides in Tullamore, was a founder member of the Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestokc Show.

Ger's remains will repose at his residence (E53 X050) on Sunday evening from 3pm to 7pm.

Private Removal from his residence on Monday morning at 11.30am arriving at St. Mary's Church, Shinrone (R42 WT26) for Funeral Mass at 12 noon.

Burial afterwards in Dunkerrin new cemetery.

Traffic Management will be in place on Sunday evening. There will be shuttle buses running from Mount St. Joseph's car park (E53 DX37) to his residence. No other access will be available to his residence during this time. Parking attendees will be in operation to help with traffic flow and buses.

Ger will be remembered for his passion for and commitment to Shinrone Tractor Run and he will be greatly missed by the committee and all who knew him.

Tribute has also been paid by Ballyskenach Killavilla GAA club and Naomh Brid camogie club.

Family flowers only, donations if desired to local charities benefiting from the Shinrone Tractor Run.

May he rest in peace.
