Man appeared at Tullamore District Court
JUDGE Susan Fay said she had suffered a similar injury herself when a man who had torn an ACL appeared before her.
Glen Mooney (30), Glaskill, Screggan, Tullamore, who appeared at Tullamore District Court on crutches, admitted driving without insurance and a licence at Church Street, Tullamore on September 27, 2024.
Mr Mooney was represented by solicitor Aisling Maloney and when she asked him if he needed to sit down he said he did not.
Garda Cathal Kenny told the court he saw a 2004 Tipperary registered vehicle turning illegally down a one-way street and when he stopped it the driver gave his name as Glen Mooney.
Mr Mooney subsequently failed to produce a licence and insurance.

Ms Maloney said her client had no previous convictions and was going to drive a short distance to a shop for his cousin.
She said Mr Mooney was a hurler who usually worked full-time but had torn his ACL for the second time.
Judge Fay said she expected Mr Mooney would be able to get back to work after the injury. “I tore my own ACL so I know what's involved,” she stated.
The judge said she would not disqualify Mr Mooney from driving for the insurance offence but would impose a fine of €400. He was also fined €300 for having no driving licence.
