Man sent forward to Tullamore Circuit Court

A MAN accused of robbing a Tullamore pharmacy last year also faces a charge of having a shotgun.

Philip Maguire (37), St Columba's Place, Tullamore, was before the local District Court on charges alleging offences committed at McCormack Pharmacy, Tullamore and Convent View, Tullamore on October 22 last.

It is alleged Mr Maguire robbed €530 cash in €50, €20 and €10 notes, and €192 worth of medication at McCormack Pharmacy, Kilbeggan Bridge, Arden Road.

It is also alleged he had a shotgun with intent to commit robbery and also had a knife.

A book of evidence was served by Garda Stacey O'Brien who told Judge Susan Fay the DPP had consented to the accused being sent to Tullamore Circuit Criminal Court on April 14 next.

The DPP had also said the man could be sent forward to the Circuit Court on a signed plea.

After Judge Fay made the order sending Mr Maguire forward the accused man's solicitor, Aisling Maloney, applied for two counsel for his defence because he was facing a charge involving a firearm.

Judge Fay granted the application for two counsel and remanded Mr Maguire in custody with consent to bail to the Circuit Court in April.
