Man arrested as two teenagers hospitalised after being struck by car in Offaly

Two teenagers injured in collision on the Tullamore Road, Clara on Wednesday evening

ACCIDENT

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Clara, yesterday evening, Wednesday, February 4.

Shortly after 6.15pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and two pedestrians on Tullamore Road, Clara.

One of the pedestrians, a female in her mid-teens, was treated at the scene and subsequently removed to CHI Crumlin. Her condition is understood to be critical.

The second pedestrian, a male also in his mid-teens, was brought to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A male in his 40s was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in County Offaly.

The scene was preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area of Tullamore Road, Frederick Street and Bridge Street, Clara, at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
