Speeding prosecution at Tullamore District Court
A DRIVER was captured giving “just one finger” to a camera during a speed check, Tullamore District Court heard.
Colm Douch, Park View, Cavan, was not in court when his summons was called before Judge Andrew Cody.
The prosecution went ahead in Mr Douch's absence and an operator for the GoSafe service said that on July 15 last year at 4.42pm on the R436 [Kilbeggan-Clara road] at Kilgaroan, Kilbeggan, a 2006 Dublin registered vehicle was detected travelling at 116km/h in an 80km/h zone.
Judge Cody examined a photograph taken when the speed was detected and asked the operator if he had “counted the number of fingers”.
The operator replied: “It wasn't the peace sign or anything.”
The judge remarked: “It was just one finger.”
He imposed a fine of €500 and disqualified Mr Douche from driving for three months. The man was given three months to pay the fine.
“He'll keep his hands on the car next time he's passing you,” Judge Cody told the operator.
