BREAKING: Elderly pedestrian dies after being struck by car in the Midlands
A pedestrian who was taken to hospital following a collision with a vehicle in the Midlands on Wednesday evening has died.
Gardaí said the collision involving a car and a male pedestrian (aged in his 70's) occurred on Main Street, Abbeyleix in Laois at approximately 7pm. The pedestrian was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where he was later pronounced deceased.
The road was closed for technical examination, and has since reopened. No other injuries have been reported.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6.30pm and 7:30pm on the evening of Wednesday, January 28 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
