AN Offaly man has been selected to play for Leitrim senior hurlers. Coolderry's Damiel Miller has been named at midfield on the team that will play Longford in their National Hurling League Division 4 opener at Carrick on Shannon on Saturday, January 24.

A fast, accurate forward for Coolderry, Miller made a big impact off the bench when he scored a sensational 2-2 as they shocked Ballinamere in the opening round of the Senior Hurling Championship last year – he was only introduced in the 50th minute.

He also came on as a sub in the win over Seir Kieran and defeat by Birr when he scored two points while his three points were a big help in the narrow win over Tullamore. He started in Coolderry's dramatic quarter-final defeat by Shinrone, scoring another three points – Coolderry led by 2-13 to 0-9 at half time but were blown out of the water in the second half, losing by 1-25 to 2-19.

Miller has worked in Leitrim but will continue to play for Coolderry this year – he got permission to play for Leitrim under the rule promoting hurling in weaker counties.
