THERE was a power cut in a south Offaly neighbourhood after a car hit an ESB pole, Tullamore District Court was told.
Garda Laurence O'Gorman gave evidence of investigating the circumstances of a single vehicle road traffic collision near Kinnitty on May 5 last year which resulted in Dominik Daniel (30), Coille Bheithe, Nenagh, Co Tipperary being prosecuted for a driving offence.
Garda O'Gorman said a 2018 Tipperary registered vehicle hit an ESB pole and cut the ESB supply for the area.
The garda said he was told by the driver that he had dropped a cigarette and drifted across the road when he bent down to pick it up.
Mr Daniel was summonsed for driving without reasonable consideration for other road users at Clashroe, Roscomroe, Co Offaly after a fixed charge notice was issued but not paid.
Garda O'Gorman said Mr Daniel had no previous convictions.
Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €500.
