Shane Lowry finishes second at Truist Championship on PGA after dramatic finish on final hole

Shane Lowry has finished in a tie for second at the Truist Championship on the PGA Tour in Philadelphia after a dramatic finish on the 18th hole.

Trailing by one shot to Austrian Sepp Straka as they teed off on the last, both players found themselves in trouble off the tee with Straka in the bunker and Shane in the rough in the shadow of a spectator stand.

Both players found the green with a pair of excellent second shots setting up a grandstand finish. Straka putted first from distance for the win but ran his put past the hole leaving Shane a putt to force a playoff.

From all of 20 feet his putt also ran well past the hole leaving him a difficult putt back for par. He missed it leaving the way clear for Straka to take the win leaving Shane in a tie for second with Justin Thomas.

Shane went into the final round in a tie for the lead with Straka with both players on 14 under par after three rounds.

Playing together in the final group in Philadelpia, Straka edged ahead on the front nine but two dropped shots around the turn meant that nothing separated the two Europeans on the back nine.

Justin Thomas briefly threated to get in the mix but a missed putt on 15 and a dropped shot on 16 dropped him out of contention.

After almost pitching in for a sensational eagle on 15, a wayward tee shot on 16 saw Shane drop a shot leaving Straka on ahead with two holes to go.

Shane narrowly missed a birdie on 17 while Straka rolled in a short par putt to leave one between them going down the difficult 18th hole, the hardest hole on the course.

Straka held his nerve on the last with Shane dropping a shot on the last.
