'One of a kind' - Tributes paid after sad death of beloved Offaly ice cream man
People have been sharing their memories of beloved ice cream van operator Peter Brady (aka Mr Softie) after his sad death in Offaly.
Peter Bradley was legendary as the Mr Softie ice cream van operator in Finglas before moving to Edenderry in Offaly. His death was announced this week as he passed away "surrounded by his loving family at Tullamore Hospital."
Peter is predeceased by his parents, brothers, sisters and great grandson Leon.
His RIP.ie notice reads: "He will be deeply regretted and sadly missed by his family: wife and soul mate Antoinette, daughter Andrea, grandchildren Shannen, Alfie and Blake, great grandchildren Oscar, Evie, Fionn and Oisín, brother Denis, sons-in-law Darren and Mark, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews. relatives and friends."
People have been sharing their memories and tributes to Peter on RIP.ie.

One wrote: "RIP Softie, always a smile or a joke for us growing up! Will always be remembered as he'd give you a free cone when ya hadn't a penny. Would always stop and say hello, remembered everyone face. Condolence to the family!"
Another added: "So sorry for the loss of Peter, I have many fond memories growing up of him coming into the estate with the ice cream van he was a gentleman may he rest in peace."
"Sorry to hear of Softie's passing," a third said, adding that "he will be part of every kid's childhood memories in Finglas south. He always had a smile and would always have a joke and a laugh. A legend of Finglas RIP."
A fourth person wrote: "Just heard the terrible news that we have lost one of life's true gentlemen. Will always remember the laughs we had on Berryfield Road and the ice cream, the kids waiting for him. He never let them down. Condolences to his lovely wife and his family. RIP Peter, you will be greatly missed."
Funeral Details
Peter's cremation will take place on Monday (18th Nov) at 2.30pm in Glasnevin crematorium. You can also take part in Peter's cremation service via the webstream link.
