Compensation paid at Tullamore District Court

A MAN who urinated and defecated in a garda car has paid €4,700 in compensation and must pay another €300 before he is sentenced.

The compensation order was imposed on Leszek Amernik (42), Ballybrittan, Edenderry in July and the case came before Tullamore District Court again last week.

Mr Amernik had pleaded guilty to damaging property by removing the rubber door seal of a passenger rear door of a garda car.

He was also charged with defecating and urinating on the rear passenger seat and spitting inside the car.

He was charged with obstructing a garda from carrying out their duty, being intoxicated in public and engaging in threatening behaviour.

Mr Amernik further admitted assault Garda Dermot McDermott and Garda Aidan Lyons.

The offences were committed at Grogan, Ballycumber on February 1 last.

The court Mr Amernik had 14 previous convictions and when Judge Andrew Cody was told by defending solicitor Aisling Maloney that monetary compensation would be paid he fixed it at €5,000 and said he might view the matter favourably if that amount was paid before the end of the year.

Last week Ms Maloney said another €1,200 was being paid by her client, a self-employed man. She reminded the court that a garda had been injured by him and asked that the matter be adjourned again to December.

Judge Valerie Corcoran granted an adjournment to December 10 for €300, the balance of the compensation, and sentencing.
