A MAJOR multi-national pharmaceutical firm is the preferred bidder for a plant in the IDA Industrial Park in Tullamore which is set to close down completely by April of this year.
Steris, a contract sterlisation and laboratory testing services company, is set to buy Cardinal Health, the firm which announced its shock closure last year with the loss of dozens of jobs.
The news has been hailed by local councillor Shane Murray who said it is a huge investment in Tullamore.
He revealed the sale is due to be finalised by June and said that new jobs will be created.
"It's great to have the IDA Industrial Park back to full capacity and to have such a major sterilisation facility in Tullamore," added the Fianna Fail public represntative.
It uis understood that due diligence on the sale is due to commence immediately and subject to successful completion it is anticipated that the sale may be finalised by the end of June.
Steris is a major player in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical devices industries.
