THE HSE has provided significant further information to Offaly Planning Authority in relation to its application for the construction of a hospice in Tullamore.

The Planning Authority had sought clarification on a number of issues following the original application which was lodged in April 2025.

Among the concerns Offaly County Council sought a revised proposal for tightening the junction connecting the new access road. It contended that the original design ''may lead to speeding''.

Also drawings were required to ensure there are adequate sightlines and inter-visibility between drivers waiting at the Yield line on Arden Lane and westbound drivers on Arden Lane.

In addition to a number of design details, the council looked for clarification around the ownership of the land for the proposed site. It questioned the legal authority for consent for the application.

The council also asked to see the consent of the relevant landowners for the roadside verge where the proposal requires that the roadside verge be used to upgrade Arden Lane.

The HSE response covers a wide range of issues including building elevations, site layout plans, drainage network drawings and includes a large number of designs.

One notable change is that upgrade works to the public road are no longer included within the scope of the application due to land ownership constraints.

Offaly County Council received the further information on Tuesday September 16 and it will take four weeks from that date before a decision is reached or if more information is required.

The hospice will serve the four counties of Offaly, Laois, Westmeath and Longford.
