Wycombe miss chance to close gap on Birmingham as they draw with Wigan

Wycombe missed the chance to close the gap on league leaders Birmingham as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Wigan.

The home side started brightly and nearly took the lead inside the opening five minutes.

Caleb Taylor, who has yet to score at Adams Park this season, had a close-range shot brilliantly tipped over by Sam Tickle and Josh Scowen’s half-volley skimmed the top of the crossbar shortly afterwards.

Wigan’s best chance fell to the feet of Owen Dale, whose shot was easily saved by Will Norris.

The second half was similar to the first as Wycombe enjoyed possession but could not break down Wigan’s back-line.

Cameron Humphreys’ fierce drive was kept out by Tickle, while Joe Low and Garath McCleary saw attempts go wide.

After a very lacklustre 85 minutes, the last five became end-to-end.

The return of star striker Richard Kone gave the home crowd a big boost and he and Fred Onyedimna both went close in the final few moments, while for Latics, Ronan Darcy saw a shot saved by Norris.
