Saturday 16th August
A Black Mills Special in tribute to the late Anthony Bourke. Music by Dinny Quirke, Charly Ford & Mick Creagh (Sold Out)

Free guided tours of Roscrea Castle Complex.
Venue: Damer House, Castle Street, Roscrea
Time: Tours will commence at 10am and will continue throughout the day with last admission at 5.15pm

Lego Competition
Venue: Roscrea Library
Roscrea Tourism committee are hosting a Lego competition with all entries to be submitted to Roscrea library. This competition is open to all ages that have an interest in Lego. Your inspiration can be any building/monument/place or a craft that has lived on through generations. Roscrea Heritage Society is delighted to sponsor prizes for this event.

Monday 18th August
Tour of Stapleton’s Bakery
Venue: Meeting at Stapleton’s Bakery at the bottom of Limerick Street
Time: 11am – 1pm
Join Joe Stapleton (4th generation baker) for a behind-the-scenes look at how Stapleton’s products are made. The tour will start from the old bakery site at the bottom of Limerick Street. We will then take a short walk to the bakery's present location at Parkmore Industrial Estate. Get ready to indulge your senses with the sights and smells of freshly baked bread! Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the magic of Stapleton's Bakery up close and personal!
Booking: As places are limited, tickets (free of charge) must be booked in advance. Tickets will go live on Eventbrite on Monday August 4th at 8pm. This tour is suitable for those aged 16 and over.

Tuesday 19th August
Introduction to Natural Materials & Basket Weaving
Venue: The Black Mills, Church Street, Roscrea, E53 F652
Time: 12pm – 3pm
Join highly skilled basket maker, multimedia artist and sculptor Lynn Kirkham as she talks us through the use of natural materials such as willow. Lynn will have some various sized pieces to showcase on the day and will encourage all those attending to try their hand at making a piece such as a headband, wreath or coaster to take home.
Bookings: As places are limited, tickets (free of charge) must be booked in advance. Tickets will go live on Eventbrite on Monday August 4th at 8pm. This event is suitable for those aged 10 and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This event has been funded by Tipperary County Council.

Rambling House in Roscrea Courthouse

Time: 7pm-10pm
Join Fear an Tí Séamus Moloughney for what promises to be a very enjoyable evening of stories, songs and rhymes from the rare auld times. Bring a friend and a song! Light refreshments will be served. Admission is by voluntary donation with all proceeds going to Age Friendly Roscrea.

Talk on Vikings and their battle in Roscrea

Roscrea Heritage 1979-2017
Venue: The Courthouse, Roscrea
Time: 7.30pm-9.30pm
Join renowned historian and author George Cunningham for an illustrated presentation on Roscrea Heritage (1969-2017) with particular emphasis on the saving and restoration of Damer House. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is by voluntary donation with all proceeds going to Age Friendly Roscrea.

How a Community Can Enhance and Preserve Its Local History

"Memory Keeping and Story Telling: How a Community Can Enhance and Preserve Its Local History with Oral History" with Dr Jane Halloran PhD
This talk will discuss how oral history can be used to enhance heritage work including genealogy, family history and local history in the local and wider community.

Sunday 24th August
Dancing at the Crossroads
Venue: Knock Village, Roscrea, E53YH93
Time: 2pm
Join Knock Dancing at the Crossroads committee for what promises to be another fun filled day in Knock Village. This small village situated just outside Roscrea with five roads leading into it, will showcase the best of our Irish culture on the day. From sheaf throwing to jigs & reels, soccer blitz to waltzing, there really is something for everyone on the day! The committee is delighted to host the Sheaf Throwing Competition again this year, with the winner in the Senior men category taking home the John Russell Perpetual cup.

The Black Mills Sessions
Date for your diary: Friday August 29th (8pm-10pm). Following our session during National Heritage Week, the society is delighted to welcome back Martin Delaney Snr for what promises to be a fabulous evening of music in the mill. Martin is well known both near and far for his musical talent. For years he has been a familiar face on the pub scene throughout Roscrea and beyond. His repertoire is a mix of folk, ballads, country and traditional. Get ready to be entertained as he shares his talent with us!
