A long running festival in the Slieve Bloom Mountains promises family fun this weekend.
Festival of the Mountain returns to Glenbarrow, Rosenallis, on Sunday, August 17th, starting at 12 o'clock.
First established in 1962, the festival has grown in size and popularity over the years since, with 2025 hinted to be their biggest yet, providing an opportunity for people to relive the past, embrace the present, and celebrate the cherished traditions that have shaped their community.
"The site has been significantly expanded to accommodate more on-site parking for visitors, making the experience more accessible for all," the organisers told The Midland Tribune this week.
From chicken racing to belly dancing, they said, this year's festival “promises something for everyone.”
There will be music from acoustic cover band New Light Duo, and the famous Laois Timahoe Male Choir. Rock On Paddy will entertain the crowd with some country throwbacks and hit songs.
There will be a special performance from the Red Embers Belly Dancers, sure to dazzle attendees.
"There will be sheep shearing and a vintage vehicle exhibit for all to enjoy," the organisers stated, who are calling on all traditional musicians and Comhaltas members to join in at a session in their new trad music tent.
For those with a competitive streak, there will be tug of war, archery, Irish dancing and more. There will be amusements and face painting for the younger ones, and a raffle with amazing prizes up for grabs.
The festival will also see the crowning of the King and Queen of the Mountain.
Admission to the festival will be €10 for adults, with children under 12 entitled to free entry.
