Man appeared before Tullamore District Court

A MAN has admitted possessing drugs at a Tullamore supermarket car park but is not pleading guilty to having them for sale or supply to others.

The plea of guilty to possession of amphetamines was entered on behalf of accused man Oliver McDonald (66), Kilmurray, Ballinagar, by his solicitor Aisling Maloney at Tullamore District Court.

At a previous appearance in court Judge Andrew Cody was told the estimated value of the drugs was €630.

Mr McDonald is accused of having the drugs at Lidl car park, Main Street, Tullamore on September 14, 2024.

Ms Maloney said a hearing will be required in relation to the allegation of having the drugs for sale or supply to others.

When Judge Cody suggested that the hearing take place on April 7 next Ms Maloney said her client was undergoing treatment for cancer and asked if a later date would be available.

Judge Cody responded: “Has he an appointment for the seventh of April?”

Ms Maloney also sought a recording of an interview Mr McDonald had with the gardai and Judge Cody ordered that it be provided to the defence within two weeks.

He also fixed the date of the hearing for April 7 next.
