Offaly student praised for kind gesture to elderly woman due to 'suspicious' man
A teenage student from Oaklands Community College in Edenderry has been praised for her kind gesture to an elderly local woman in St Mary's Cemetery this week.
The touching interaction was the subject of a post on the Edenderry community Facebook page when one follower posted a message.
"A big thank you to the lovely young lady who walked my elderly mother out of the cemetery in Edenderry today," the post on Wednesday began.
"There was a guy acting suspiciously and this girl got out of the car and walked her to the main road and made sure she got across the road safely," the person added.
"She was wearing an Oaklands uniform and my mother did not get her name but said she was an extraordinary lovely girl and was very appreciative of her help. Thank you so much and it's great to see these young people looking out for the older generation. If anyone reading this message knows who this girl is can you please pass on our sincere thanks."
One of the comments was from the girl's father who said: "Delighted your mother is OK. It was my daughter Aoibheann Kirwan and she said your mother was an absolute lady."
Others were quick to praise Aoibheann and her thoughtfulness during Christmas week.
One person wrote: "Such a lovely girl to help a woman out, you should be so proud."
Another added: "Well done to your daughter, you must be very proud of her having read this post."
