Ballyskenach Drama Group staged its first production in 2008 with “The man from Clare”. The Group was formed mainly through the efforts of Gerry Bergin, who was passionate about getting a group of amateur actors together. They have continued to stage hilarious plays nearly every year in the Citeaux Hall since then. They have performed plays by J.B. Keane, Jimmy Keary and Sam Cree.
“Stop it Nurse” is a hilarious comedy set in a men's surgical ward in a local Hospital, run by a very stern Sister (Betty Murphy), aided by Nurses Ferguson and Holmes (Roisin Tuohy & Sophie Fitzgerald).
It tells the story of opposing supporters who have an accident on Cup final day - Sam McCracken (Kevin Tuohy) and Felix Devlin (Paddy Delaney). Their hospitalisation ends the peaceful stay of the agreeable Bert Cooper (Gerry McAuliffe) and Harold Smiley (John Doherty), who has a weird sense of humour.
Throw in an eccentric spinster Miss Cherry (Sally Carney), distressed Phyllis (Mairead King) and her wrestling brother Mad McGuirk (Fergal Keeshan) together with Bert's wife (Kathleen Fitzgerald) and Bert's bit on the side, Dolores (Orlaith Middleton) and the Commentator (Jim Bolger). When all these are added to the equation things take an hysterical turn.
This production is not to be missed. Directed by Jimmy Middleton. Continuity is by Colm Lalor and stage manager is Francis Fitzgerald.
It is sure to be a great night's entertainment in the Citeaux Hall each night. We hope to see you all there.
