Woman prosecuted at Tullamore District Court
TULLAMORE District Court was told that a woman who had stolen roast beef from a Tesco store was currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
Judge Andrew Cody imposed a three-month suspended sentence on Lindsay Kane (43), Walsh Island Road, Ballykane, Geashill for stealing roast beeft worth €40 at Tesco, Railway Road, Birr on August 31, 2024.
Defending solicitor Patrick Martin said Ms Kane, a mother of two adult children, had been drinking at the time but was no longer doing so.
He added that she had paid €50 in December in relation to the loss made by the store. Mr Martin also said the woman was receiving treatment for cancer.
Judge Cody noted that the accused had received a two-month suspended sentence previously and it would be triggered by the latest offence.

Imposing a three-month sentence on this occasion, he suspended it for three years and said the issue of the other suspended sentence, which dated from January, 2024, would come before the court on February 25 next.
