A MOTORIST was fined by Judge Andrew Cody when he appeared before Tullamore District Court last week for travelling almost twice the speed limit when he was detected by Gardaí in Moneygall.

Before the court was Sean Ryan (56) with an address at Moneygall, summonsed with excess speed in a built up area where the speed limit is 50kph.

Garda Christopher O'Mara from Templemore Garda Station told the court that on March 9, 2025, he was operating a speed detection camera on the R445 in Moneygall when he observed a black Audi A4 car travelling at 96kph in a 50kph speed limit zone.

Garda O'Mara stopped the car in Moneygall and spoke with the driver and issued a fixed charge penalty notice which was unpaid and subsequently a summons was issued. The defendant has no previous convictions.

Judge Andrew Cody fined the defendant €500 with three months to pay.
