Eight realistic handguns seized from shop in Offaly by gardai
EIGHT realistic imitation handguns were seized by gardai from a shop where they were on display and for sale in County Offaly, Tullamore District Court heard last week.
Appearing before Judge Andrew Cody in Tullamore District Court on Wednesday last was Ali Raza (29), with an address at 130 Boyne Meadows, Edenderry.
Sgt Kearns, court presenter, said that on November 13, 2024, gardai seized eight imitation firearms which were on display and for sale at the Fone Geek shop on JKL Street in Edenderry.
The defendant appeared in Tullamore District Court where it was alleged that without lawful authority or a reasonable excuse, had possession of a realistic imitation firearm contrary to Section 9(a) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act (1990).
The replica weapons were a handgun design and Judge Cody examined photographs of the weapons seized by gardai.
"For all intents and purposes, anyone looking at them would think they are realistic handguns," Judge Cody said.
Judge Cody refused jurisdiction and remanded the defendant on continuing bail. The Judge adjourned the case to allow time for creation of the book of evidence to November 5, 2025.
