Man who failed roadside drug test after crash appears at Tullamore court

A man with an address in Edenderry was charged with defecating and urinating in a Garda car and assaulting two gardai during last week's Tullamore District Court sitting.

Leszek Amernik (42), Ballybrittan, Edenderry was charged with committing the offences on February 1 last at Grogan, Ballycumber.

He was charged with damaging property by removing the rubber door seal of a passenger rear door of a Garda car.

He was also charged with defecating and urinating on the rear passenger seat and spitting inside the car.

He was charged with obstructing a gardai from carrying out her duty, being intoxicated in public and engaging in threatening behaviour.

Mr Amernik was before the court as well for assault causing harm with the injured parties being Garda Dermot McDermott and Garda Aidan Lyons.

Sergeant Richard Thornton told the court that Mr Amernik had 14 previous convictions.

The defending solicitor Aisling Maloney said her client was willing to pay monetary compensation.

Judge Andrew Cody ordered the defendant to pay €5,000 in compensation between now and the end of year and he might look favourably on the matter.
