Hundreds of landlords in Offaly told to carry out improvements after inspections
Hundreds of landlords in Offaly have been notified that they need to carry out improvements on their properties after inspections were carried out with one landlord being served with an improvement notice.
According to figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Offaly County Council carried out inspections of 929 private rented dwellings in the county.
Of those 929 properties, improvement letters were issued to 813 landlords in Offaly while one landlord was served with an improvement notice.
In 2023, 458 properties were inspected in Offaly with 520 improvement letters issue. The number of privately let homes in Offaly is not revealed in the figures.
In Laois in 2024, 803 dwellings were inspected and 641 improvement letters were issued along with 12 improvement notices. Additionally, nine landlords were served with prohibition notices.
The Department says minimum standards for rental accommodation are prescribed in the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2019 and specify requirements about a range of matters, such as structural repair, sanitary facilities, heating, ventilation, natural light, fire safety and the safety of gas, oil and electrical installations.
