Suspended sentence and fine after 'talk fight' in big Offaly town

A MAN who said he had a “talk fight” with another person was fined €400 and given a one-month suspended prison sentence.

Mihail Rizijs (40), Hophill Grove, Tullamore, pleaded guilty at the local District Court to engaging in threatening, insulting and abusive behaviour at O'Connor Square in the town on December 30 last.

The court was told Mr Rizijs was intoxicated and abusive and aggressive to gardai at the time of the offence.

He had nine previous convictions, including several for public order offences, one for littering and another for not providing a breath sample.

The man had previously been ordered to complete 240 hours of community service.

Mr Rizijs told the court he was a self employed mobile car mechanic.

Judge Andrew Cody gave him three months to pay the fine.
