Trolley full of goods stolen from Tullamore supermarket
A three-month sentence imposed on a man for theft in a Tullamore supermarket will be suspended because he paid €360 to the Barnardos charity, Judge Fiona Brennan ordered.
Tullamore District Court heard that Patrick Maughan (32), Kilkieran Road, Cabra, Dublin 7, was one of the people involved in the theft of €358 worth of goods from Dealz, Cloncollig Industrial Estate, Tullamore on January 29 last.
When Mr Maughan appeared in court a plea of guilty was entered by his solicitor Patrick Martin who said a co-accused was also prosecuted.
Sergeant Richard Thornton said a female and three males were involved and one of the males filled a trolley. None of the property was recovered.
Sergeant Thornton said Mr Maughan had 35 previous convictions, including six for theft.
Mr Martin said his client, a father of six children who was on social welfare, had brought €360 to court and was hanging around with bad company at the time of the offence.
The solicitor said that €360 had previously been paid by another party.
