Motorist caught without driving license and insurance in Offaly given suspended sentence, long driving ban and big fine
A MAN who drove without insurance or driving licence was put off the road for ten years and fined at Tullamore District Court.
Jason McCormack (30) of Correagh, Mountemple, Moate, was stopped by Garda Enda Kenny on June 15, 2024 at Geashill, County Offaly. He was driving a white Ford Focus.
Mr McCormack had six previous convictions for road traffic offences including driving with no insurance or driving licence. He had previously been disqualified for six years. This was his fifth conviction for no insurance.
His solicitor Patrick Martin said Jason McCormack had a shocking record. He said his client hadn't come to the attention of the gardai since 2018. On the occasion of this latest offence he had been helping a friend pick up a car.
He said he was in good employment and worked with machinery earning €2,500 every two weeks. He had pleaded guilty on the first occasion. He is moving to Dublin and doesn't normally drive.
It had been six years since his last offence, said Mr Martin. He had an email from his employers which was handed to Judge Andrew Cody. Mr McCormack has two children aged six and one.
Judge Cody said this had been Mr McCormack's fifth conviction for no insurance and he had been disqualified from driving in 2018.
He imposed a six month sentence which he suspended for three years on his own bond of €100, he disqualified him from driving for 10 years and fined him €2,500.
For driving without a driving licence he fined him €500 and disqualified him for 10 years.
