PICTURES: Hundreds of runners participate in the Colin Dunne Memorial 5k race in Offaly

Proceeds from the annual fundraiser went to the autism unit at St. Colman's National School in Mucklagh

The Colin Dunne Memorial 5k race welcomed over 330 athletes to Mucklagh on Sunday, March 8. 

The annual event is held in memory of Colin Dunne, a local teacher from Rahan who tragically lost his life while competing in the Barcelona marathon in 2009.

Proceeds from the fundraiser went to the autism unit at St. Colman's National School in Mucklagh.

Refreshments also took place after the race in the school gym which included pizza slices, sandwiches, cakes and drinks.  Prizes include a perpetual memorial cup for the winner to keep until next year's edition along with cash prizes.

Runners from Tullamore Harriers AC accomplished a clean sweep in the top three places of both the men's and women's categories.

Barry Mooney emerged victorious with a time of 17:31, Darragh Stewart finished second with 18:19 and Cian Martin placed third with a time of 18:44.

Adelyn Walsh finished first in the women's standings posting a time of 18:50 with Elise Cusack runner-up with a time of 19:15 while Sarah Whittaker finished 3rd with 19:30.
