Gogglebox Ireland stars scream in fear watching 'ghost' at Offaly castle

Gogglebox Ireland stars were left screaming on our screens last week as they watched ghosthunters inside an Offaly castle.

The show introduced Spooked Ireland presented by influencer and model Vogue Williams who said she's been "obsessed by the supernatural" since she was a child.

She brought 'spiritual medium' Chris Fleming to Charleville Castle in Tullamore in an attempt to communicate with spirits.

One of the stars joked she'd be "spooked if she had to go to Offaly" as Vogue and Chris looked around the castle and its grounds.

Vogue claimed there had been "a huge spike" in paranormal activity at the castle recently. One local showed a photograph of what was claimed to be the spirit of a young boy, Henry Walter, "one of the sons of the second Earl who was seven years old when he died."

"Oh my God, it's the shadow of a child," one of the Gogglebox stars shrieked. "It's literally a blob," another joked.

The film crew then visited the nursery of a young girl, Harriet, who died in a fall from the staircase at the castle. One of the Gogglebox stars said: "Why would you keep that nursery the way it is, like if you buy a new gaff, you're not keeping their bed." Another called it "terrifying."

Chris appeared startled by a rocking horse and rocking cot that both appeared to move as he stood in the room. He later climbed a tree outside and attempted to speak to spirits he claimed may be there.

The crew claimed to play a clip of something saying "I'm back" in response to a question as the Gogglebox stars said, "run out of that place." Others joked about people believing in ghosts.

Chris then claimed to have his body and voice taken over by a spirit of a grieving father inside the castle. Gogglebox star Laura Grufferty said: "I can't stop that crap now." Another said, "I don't know how Vogue is keeping a straight face."

Chris then said a prayer for "eternal rest" for spirits at the castle.

One of the Carlow lads on Gogglebox described the show as "really embarrassing." It's fair to say not many of them were convinced by the presence of ghosts at the castle.
