Funeral details have been announced for one of Offaly GAA's iconic administrators, Brendan Ward.

Offaly GAA's Life President and a long serving Chairman passed away on Saturday.

The Durrow man served as Offaly GAA chairman from 1989 to 2002 and was Life President since 2003 when he won an election to replace former GAA president, John Dowling, beating Br Denis Minehane, Birr and St Rynagh's Jackie Ryland in a vote.

All Offaly GAA championship games were called off on Sunday as a mark of respect, including the Senior Football Championship meeting between his own club, Durrow and Ferbane – they have been refixed for Tuesday evening, the day of his funeral, with U-20 football games called off that night.

Pre deceased by his infant son Brendan, sister Kathleen (O'Brien) and brother Sean, Brendan will be sadly missed and always remembered by his loving wife Carmel and family Kevin, Declan, Angela and Sheila, daughters in law Patricia and Freda, sons in law John and Darren, his adored grandchildren John, David, Sandra, Alice, Grace, Emily and Oisín, sisters Marie, Carmel and Jerry, brother in law Joseph, sister in law Dolores, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Reposing at O'Reilly's Funeral Home, Harbour Street, Tullamore, on Monday from 4pm until Rosary at 7pm. Removal from his home on Tuesday morning to St. Colmcille's Church, Durrow, arriving for Funeral Mass at 10am. Burial after Mass in the adjoining cemetery.
