Tributes flood in after sad death of Offaly nun in America

Tributes are being paid this week after the sad death of an Offaly-born nun in the US.

Sr. Anna Maria Keenaghan died on Monday, February 19 at the Assisi House Nursing Home in Philadelphia.

The Lumcloon native was predeceased by her beloved parents, Kieran and Mary, step-mother Kitty, brother Padraig, brother-in-law Phelim and nephew Barry.

"Sr Anna will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving community, and family, brothers Kieran and Oliver, sister Eileen Kerin, sisters-in-law Kitty and Sheila, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends," her RIP.ie notice read.

Tributes from locals and those that knew Sr Anna have been flooding in since the sad news of her passing.

One local wrote: "Our sincere condolences to the Sisters of St Francis of Philadelphia community and the Keenaghan Family on the death of Sr Anna Maria. May her gentle soul rest in peace."

Another said: "Sincere condolences to Kieran, Oliver, Eileen and all the family on the passing of Sr Anna Maria. You are as always in our thoughts and prayers but especially at this sad time."

A third condolence read: "Sincere Sympathy to Kieran and Oliver and all the Keenaghan family on the loss of Sr. Anna Maria. Sincere sympathy to the Sisters of St. Francis on the loss of such a valued member of your caring community. Thinking of you all at this sad time. Grásta ó Dhia ar a hanam."
