Suspended 12 month sentence and driving ban for ten years for Tullamore man

Motorist charged with eight counts of dangerous driving in Tullamore on one date

A TULLAMORE man was banned from driving for ten years during the June 25 sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Jamie Collins, 56 Chancery Park Road, Tullamore was charged with eight counts of dangerous driving on June 8 2024 when driving from Chancery Park to Srah Road in Tullamore.

He had ten previous convictions including no insurance, no driving licence and driving while under the influence.

Judge Andrew Cody pointed out that Mr Collins had three previous convictions for no insurance, one for dangerous driving and one for being intoxicated in public.

The defending solcitor Patrick Martin said his client is 21 years of age and suffers from ADHD.

“He wishes to apologise for talking when he shouldn't have been during the court sitting,” remarked the solicitor."

“As well as ADHD he suffers from medical conditions which aren't fully diagnosed yet. His mother is present in court today. He lives with his mother. Since these offences occurred he has quietened down and has been doing quite well.”

Mr Collins was also charged with being in possession of €120 worth of cannabis for his own use on a separate date, to which he pleaded guilty. This matter was adjourned to a future court sitting.

Judge Cody convicted for dangerous driving and fined €500. He sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspending for three years, and disqualified from driving for a decade.

He remanded on continuing bail to the court sitting on November 12 next for a Probation Report and proof that the defendant's urine readings were clear for four months.
