Offaly County Council wishes to advise of an important update regarding the application dates for Housing Adaption Grant Schemes for private homeowners.
A decision has been taken, in consultation with the elected members by the Council’s Senior Management Team (SMT), that the grant schemes listed below will pause accepting applications on July 1 2025.
Housing Adaptation Grants (HAGs)
Mobility Aid Grants (MAGs)
Housing for Older Persons (HOPs)
This decision follows a detailed review which assessed current resources, the current number of grant applications on file, the projected waiting times for grants to be processed, and ongoing budget commitments.
92% of the 2025 grant allocation, received from the Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage for these programmes, has been allocated to date.
Our overall allocation for 2025 equates to €1,846,196.
The schemes will re-open for receipt of new applications on the 1st of February 2026. We will pause accepting applications thereafter once we have allocated grants to the value of 65% of the previous year’s budget allocation or on the 1st of July whichever comes first.
The new timeline for the receipt of applications, between 1st of February and a date whereby we have allocated 65% of the previous year’s allocation or the 1st of July whichever is first of any given year, is a permanent change to how the program will operate going forward.
The schemes will remain open continuously for the receipt and assessment of all emergency and priority 1 applications. All new non-emergency and non-priority 1 applications received after 1st July 2025 will be returned to the applicant.
Offaly County Council acknowledges the ongoing positive engagement with all stakeholders with regards to the delivery of the Housing Aids Grant programme and remains fully committed to discharging our allocations under this programme.
