GARDA SOCIAL CLUB CARD DRIVE
The Tullamore Garda Station Social Club annual progressive 25 card drive takes place on Tuesday, February 7 in the Tullamore Court Hotel at 9pm and this year all proceeds go to the Irish Wheelchair Association Centre at Ballinagar. All welcome.
Midlands Astronomy Club
‘Telescope Construction and Maintenance’ is the next lecture presented by Midlands Astronomy Club on Tuesday, February 7 in the Presbyterian Hall, High Street in Tullamore at 8pm.
Presented by Michael O’Connell, he will talk about the construction of his own telescope. Members will also demonstrate how to maintain your own telescope including a cleaning demonstration on the club’s 12 inch mirror. All are welcome to attend, admission is €2. New members are welcome.
‘Astronomy Observing Session’ takes place on Saturday night, February 4 at the club’s Observing Site in Clonminch, Tullamore from 8pm. Weather permitting, there will be telescopes on display looking at the night sky.
Wrap up warm, children are welcome when accompanied with an adult and you can bring your own telescope too. No admission charge! Contact the Secretary, Seanie Morris, on 087 6825910 for further information and directions.
Members of the club will attend a disco in Ballinabrackey on Friday, February 10 from 9pm to 12pm.
There has been an increased demand from teachers for information on epilepsy. So to mark European Epilepsy Day, Brainwave, the Irish Epilepsy Association is inviting Teachers to an Information Evening in OCIL Clonminch Rd, Tullamore on Monday, February 13 at 7pm.
This event will be an opportunity for teachers to learn more about the condition and to have questions answered. Each teacher will receive a Teacher Information Pack. Places are limited so early booking is essential.
ARDEN VIEW COMMUNITY AND FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE

Community Liaison Gardai: If you need any information or forms completed or signed, Community Liaison Gardai will be available to meet members of the public in the Arden View Community & Family Resource Centre.
Monday Afternoon Club: Senior members of the community meet every Monday afternoon at 2.30pm to 4.30pm in the Family Resource Centre. This is an opportunity for all to come together and meet socially. Activities to date have included arts and crafts, bingo, trips and other social activities. Refreshments provided. All welcome. Amy Martin Chairperson, Alex Vickers Secretary, Regina Galvin Treasurer and Deanna Kelly PRO attended the Regional Conference of Foroige in Athlone on Saturday, January 28.
Amy Martin and Alex Vickers were elected to the Regional Panel of Foroige. This was a great achievement for the members and indeed for the wider Foroige members and leaders in Durrow.
They will now go forward for election to the National Council of Foroige. Congratulations and well done to all concerned.

3rd Level Competitions: In the qualifying round of the Purcell Cup, NUI Maynooth saw off the challenge of AIT with our Tullamore camogie member Ailse Hughes to the fore on the scoring sheet for the home side 2nd Level Competitions: Sacred Heart School Tullamore played Kilkenny’s Castlecomer Community School in the Leinster Colleges Junior final in Mountmellick last week. Backed with many players from our club and captained by Lisa Gorman the team had prepared well under their trainers Elaine Lanham and Karen Brady. Having performed well in the semi final hopes were high of a title alas the Castlecomer team came out deserved winners on the day. Sacred Heart School will now play the Ulster winners in the quarter final of the All Ireland leg of the competition. County Teams: Many players from the club have started their training with county teams are wished every success
