Hearing scheduled for Tullamore District Court

A COURT hearing has been scheduled in relation to an allegation that a 13-year-old male sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl.

The accused is now aged 16, Tullamore District Court heard, and when he appeared before Judge Catherine Ryan a hearing was fixed for May 18 next.

Previously the court was told the DPP had directed the matter could be disposed of summarily in the District Court.

This meant the District Court judge could decide to accept jurisdiction or rule that the matter should be sent forward to the Circuit Court.

Judge Ryan noted last week that jurisdiction had previously been accepted by the District Court.

The accused teenager is on bail but it is a condition that he have no contact, directly or indirectly, with the alleged injured party.

The accused person cannot be named for legal reasons.
