Met Eireann issues Status Orange warnings with Storm Fergus to wreak havoc

Met Eireann has issued a series of weather warnings for Storm Fergus on Sunday.

The low system arrives hot on the heels of Storm Elin which ripped across the country on Saturday resulting in power outages and a number of fallen trees.

Storm Fergus is expected to bring similar havoc to a number of counties on Sunday due to strong winds.

A Status Orange wind warning has been issued for Clare, Galway and Mayo.

Met Éireann warns of "very strong onshore winds due to Storm Fergus, coupled with high waves and high tides" in those counties.
This warning is valid from 3pm to 8pm on Sunday and could result in "localised coastal flooding and wave overtopping."
A Status Yellow wind warning for Clare, Kerry, Galway and Mayo is in place from 1pm to 9pm on Sunday.
Met Éireann says "Storm Fergus will generate very strong and gusty southwesterly winds, veering westerly" in those areas.
Potential impacts include "wave overtopping, difficult travelling conditions and debris, loose objects displaced."
A final Status Yellow wind warning for Cavan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo is in place from 6pm to midnight on Sunday.
