Court hears man was highly intoxicated when gardai arrived

Man had assistance of Russian language interpreter in court

A MAN told Tullamore District Court he will pay compensation for smashing the window and door of a Tullamore bookmaker.

Speaking through a Russian language interpreter, Volodymyr Bykadorov (40), Convent of Mercy, Frankford, Kilcormac admitted causing €300 worth of damage to a door and window at Boyle Sports, William Street, Tullamore on November 7 last.

Mr Bykadorov, who told the court he was not working but was volunteering in Tullamore, pleaded guilty to that offence and to another of intoxication in a public place.

Sergeant Brendan Kearns said the man was highly intoxicated and a danger to himself when garda arrived.

He had one previous conviction for public drunkenness dating from November last year.

Mr Bykadorov told Judge Andrew Cody he would pay compensation for the damage in a month.

Judge Cody remanded the accused on continuing bail for the payment of the money to January 7 next.
