Early birds arrive for the Tullamore Show

THOUSANDS were pouring in to the Tullamore Show site near Blueball this morning for the massive annual event.

A bright, dry start to the day rewarded early comers making their way to Butterfield Estate for a show which is expected to attract more than 55,000 people.

Competitors and visitors from all over Ireland will attend what is the biggest one day event of its kind in Ireland, if not in the entire European Union.

The FBD Tullamore Show and National Livestock Show has grown to become Ireland's premier event of its kind with competitors across nearly 1,000 classes hoping to bag a slice of the €175,000 prize fund.

Shuttle buses are running from O'Connor Square in the town centre and the railway station to the show grounds but traffic was running smoothly for the thousands of cars on the access roads on Sunday morning.

Among the show highlights are the livestock competitions, both commercial and pedigree, live music, fashion and flower shows, children's entertainment area, pony classes and show jumping, the national inventions competition, demonstrations by celebrity chef Aisling Larking, the dog show, sheep shearing, home baking and horticulture, vintage machinery, poultry, robotics and acres of trade stands.
